Apricot "Alyosha" refers to winter-hardy varieties suitable for cultivation in central Russia, including in the Moscow region. The variety is represented by a seedling of the second and third own generation obtained in the process of free pollination. The variety is one of the most popular and in demand in our country.

Description and characteristics of the variety

The fruit tree does not exceed 4 m in height, has an attractive rounded and slightly spreading crown, consisting of branchy shoots. Large flowers, with a diameter of 3.6-4.1 cm, white with the presence of pinkish veins.

Apricot varieties "Alyosha" forms medium and large fruits weighing 18-21 g, roundish, slightly flattened on the sides of the form, bright yellow in color with an attractive dim blush and slight pubescence. Taste is very good. The pulp is tender, sour-sweet, has an orange color and sufficient density. The stone is quite large, easily separated from the ripened pulp.

Harvest ripens in the last decade of July or the first half of August. Harvested fruits can be consumed fresh, and are also well suited for making homemade spins. Timely collected apricots have good indicators of keeping quality.

Apricot plantings of the Alesha cultivar are characterized by a tendency to form basal shoots, which must be cut at the ground level, due to the significant expenditure of nutrients on its growth and, consequently, a decrease in yield. It is also necessary to carry out competent pruning of trees.

Spring pruning

Pruning apricot "Alyosha" in the spring is necessary for a number of reasons, chief among which are the following:

  • pruning provokes the growth of lateral branches, which improves the quantity and quality of fruit ovaries, and also favorably affects productivity;
  • spring pruning contributes to the creation of an optimal crown for lighting and moisturizing;
  • pruning of damaged branches can heal the tree and redirect nutrients to the right channel for a good harvest.

Pruning Alyosha apricot in the spring should be carried out before the stage of active movement of the juice or immediately after its completion, but strictly before the onset of the flowering phase. The procedure must be performed "under the kidney", focusing on the shape of the crown and necessarily removing the largest skeletal branches, as well as thickening areas. All sections must be treated with garden var.

Pruning in autumn

Autumn pruning of Alyosha apricot is also very important for obtaining a healthy and most productive fruit plant. The technology for pruning apricot crowns in the autumn is as follows:

  • dry, as well as weakened and diseased branches are subject to mandatory removal;
  • any damage on the stem and branches of the apricot tree should be carefully cleaned, and then carefully treated with garden varieties;
  • if during the inspection revealed a disease or the presence of plant parasites, it is mandatory to carry out sanitary trimming of the crown;
  • all sections of the cut are necessarily processed with special compounds or standard garden var.

In preparation for winter, pruning is necessarily supplemented by prophylactic treatment of the crown, as well as whitewashing of fruit stands.
